rollators
Key considerations when purchasing rollators
Rollators, simply put, are walkers with wheels. These are often used by
the disabled or elderly people as support when walking. Unlike a regular
walker, rollators don’t involve the lift that a normal walker requires.
This exerts less pressure on you and makes walking a smoother process.
Though similar to walker, they have special features that need
consideration prior to a purchase.
Since rollators have wheels, make sure you are strong and stable enough
to not let them get away from you. Most brands have either molded
plastic or foam rubber handgrips. There are also options in handgrips
that are specifically designed to spread weight over a wider area of the
palm.
It is important to keep your requirements in mind while purchasing these
walking aids. For example, if the rollator is too low, it will result in
bad posture and aches. Thanks to technology, many models have the
ability to adjust for height considerations and can be a good choice.
Since rollators are going to support you when you walk, their weight
bearing capacity should also be kept in mind. If they can't support you
well then they are useless. For stability consider either 3 or 4-legged
frames. Three leg frames allow for greater maneuverability but are less
stable than 4-legged frames.
The wheels of your rollators are also important. You can choose between
large or small, depending on the terrain. The larger wheels are useful
to get over tougher obstacles. Smaller wheels are more suited for indoor
use. And based on whether you need to maneuver curves, you can have
fixed wheels or those with swivel.
