crutch
A crutch lets you walk the walk, with
considerably less pain and effort
If you have undergone injury, a stroke, surgery or any condition that
requires you to keep your weight off your feet, you might need to use a
crutch to walk. A crutch is a device, rather like a walking stick that
you can tuck under your arms and put your weight against. Crutches go
far back into the mid-19th century. Of course, as the years rolled by,
they have developed by leaps and bounds from being merely Y-shaped
pieces of wood. The latest crutches let you get around easily and reduce
substantially the pain you encounter while walking.
A crutch has two main functions. The first is to reduce the weight load
on one of your legs and the second, to provide improved stability and
balance while walking. To be able to do this, your crutch must not only
be designed to support your full body weight, but must also be light in
weight. In addition, it should absorb the shocks from the ground beneath
your feet. Ergonomically designed crutches available today put a minimum
amount of pressure on your upper body to help you move. When you use
them you are unlikely to stumble along the way, but walk upright and
free from pain.
Crutches these days are made from aluminum or lightweight polymer.
Almost all of them offer the user the advantage of being able to adjust
the height of the crutch, as he/she wants. You can easily seek and find
the right pair of crutches fitting your needs and budget. Crutches are
an investment for life-not only will they support you, but also serve
you faithfully for a long time to come.
