A wheelchair is one of the most popular mobility aids. However, it is only part of the solution for the handicapped. Disabled people need support in most other activities as well. And one of them is transporting their wheelchairs when traveling in a vehicle. This is what a wheelchair carrier is made for. A wheelchair carrier is a small device used to lift and carry a wheelchair. Generally, used with foldable wheelchairs, these are extremely useful for hoisting and holding a chair in place.

A wheelchair carrier can attach to your vehicle and make it possible to store manual chairs during a journey. These are generally fixed in the rear of the vehicle. Some power carriers are located on the top of the vehicle. Such models use a switch-operated hoist to lift and secure a folded wheelchair into place. • Bumper-mounted wheelchair carrier – attaches right to your vehicle's bumper. These can be easily removed and reattached to grant you access to the trunk.

• Hitch-mounted wheelchair carrier – You can pull the release bar in these to tilt the rack down to the ground. Then, roll the wheelchair onto the rack and tilt the release bar back into its upright position where it will lock into place.
