handicap ramp
Travel the road less traveled – with a handicap
ramp
Handicapped people who use wheel chairs often face the problem of
being unable to compensate for height differences. There might be steep
slopes or elevations, which make it difficult for them to be mobile. In
such cases a handicap ramp can save the day. This ramp is a simple
inclined surface, generally made out of aluminum, which can be placed
between different levels or surfaces. Specifically designed to make
heights a non-issue for handicapped people, a handicap ramp offers a
smooth and safe transition for a wheelchair user.
There are different types a handicap ramp available based on different
purposes. Some of the most common ones are:
-
Track Ramps -
designed to line up with the wheels of electric and manual
wheelchairs. These are generally used indoors.
-
Threshold Ramps -
designed for indoor and outdoor use to move over difficult obstacles
such as doorways and other raised areas. They can be installed
permanently or be moved from one area to another.
-
Modular Ramps -
Ramp, curb, and deck systems with a modular design allow customized
permanent or semi-permanent placement. These may include platforms,
integral landings, self-contained leveling systems, supports,
wheels, flanges, and handrails. Many manufacturers of modular ramps
offer custom dimensions and will ship all of the parts with
installation instructions.
And based on the
structure, a handicap ramp can be either
·
single-fold,
·
multi-fold,
·
roll-up or
·
telescoping.
The first two types are
made of aluminum and can fold in one or two folds respectively. The
roll-up design has a hinge that allows it to be folded up for
convenience. Telescoping handicap ramp is built to accommodate different
needs and lengths. These have a durable non-skid driving surface. So
pick the one based on what you need!
